New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton is one of the latest to come out with his own statement in the wake of Drew Brees' retirement announcement on Sunday. Payton and Brees spent many years together in New Orleans and the 57-year-old shot-caller has quite a touching parting message for his now-former star quarterback.

This comes via Nick Underhill of New Orleans Football:

In a rather lengthy address, Payton expressed his gratitude for having had the privilege of coaching Brees — something that Payton believes has made him “better for it.” The Saints coach also reminisced about the first time Brees joined the Saints as well as the successful journey they took over the years. It goes without saying that much like the entire city of New Orleans, Payton holds Bress in very high regard. He will be missed.

Payton isn't the only one who has reached out to Brees now that the 42-year-old has called time on what has been an illustrious career. Recently, the great Tom Brady also sent an endearing congratulatory message for Brees. Brady shared how Brees has served as an inspiration for him and how he's looking forward to seeing what the next chapter holds for Brees.

On this monumental day, we bid farewell to an all-time great as Drew Brees officially puts an end to what was an unforgettable tenure in the NFL. For all that you have done for the sport and beyond, we thank you, legend.
