It's official, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has announced his retirement from football. The veteran posted a message on his Instagram page on Sunday, signaling the end to his career.

This isn't exactly a surprise. The move was widely expected and the Saints renegotiated his deal earlier in the offseason to provide financial flexibility in case Brees decided to return.

Brees should have no issues getting inducted into the National Football League Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

The veteran had a terrific career with the Saints after starting his career with the San Diego (now Los Angeles Chargers) and was able to bring a Lombardi Trophy to New Orleans.

Brees will go down in the record books for many categories and will undoubtedly be remembered for his play on the field, but also for the way he helped the community, especially during Hurricane Katrina.

As for his gridiron performance, Brees was a 13-time Pro Bowler and holds the NFL records for most career passing yards and pass completions.

Brees has so many records it's hard to count, and he should be headed to the Hall of Fame as soon as entirely possible.

For the Saints, this wasn't much of a surprise, and now Sean Payton and company have to look for a successor for Brees. Jameis Winston was brought on board last year, and everybody knows about Taysom Hill, who has been Payton's favorite toy.

The Saints have also been pegged to take a starter in the first round of the NFL Draft by many analysts, so they have a lot of options regarding the quarterback position.

However, it will be a sad day for Saints fans, and football fans for that matter, as Brees officially calls it the end of his career.

His next stop: the Hall of Fame.
