The New Orleans Saints have decided to start backup quarterback Trevor Siemien ahead of Taysom Hill in their matchup vs the Atlanta Falcons.

As the NFL Network's Insider Ian Rapoport reported, Trevor Siemien gets the first crack to drop bombs on Atlanta Sunday.

Jameis Winston, Saints starting quarterback, tore his ACL during the 36-27 victory vs the defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers last Sunday. In relief, Siemien played competently enough to earn the start this week.

Siemien went 16-29 for 159 yards and a touchdown, without turning the ball over.

Taysom Hill was finally cleared to play after missing the last three games with a concussion. Hill sustained the concussion Week 5 vs the Washington Football Team.

Hill has been utilized by Sean Payton all over the field in the past, including playing meaningful snaps at quarterback. That includes when Drew Brees was still the starter. It would not be a surprise if we saw Hill play a meaningful role once again in this game.

Hill provides something that Siemien does not. Hill's athleticism and ability to run the football, along with making throws, provides a lot of flexibility for the Saints offense.

Facing a banged up Falcons defense that has been reeling most of the year, should prove fruitful for New Orleans.

Quietly, the Saints sit at 5-2 and only a half game behind the Buccaneers for the NFC South lead. With the win vs Tampa Bay last week, they currently hold the tie breaker as well.

The Saints have a touch schedule approaching, with games against the Titans, Bills and Cowboys. So, if they want to stay in the race for the division crown, they must get this win vs the division rival Falcons.
