New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees fired a missile to wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders for 51 yards on Sunday, placing New Orleans in the red zone, and giving new life to a team that had appeared lifeless throughout much of the first half.

Only his second completion of the day, the deep throw was a remainder of how explosive New Orleans' offense can be when Brees is under center.

Forced to run conservative game plans during his month-long absence, the Saints have used the return of Brees as an opportunity to stretch the field. Having averaged 177 rushing yards over the last four contests with Taysom Hill in the starting rotation—a full 40 yards above their average with Brees at the quarterback position—New Orleans has today switched to their traditional pass-heavy attack, with Brees having dropped back 16 times in the first half alone.

Brees was picked off earlier in the game in a rude welcoming for the vet.

Following the completion, Sean Payton inserted Hill back into the lineup and used the dual-threat quarterback on a pair of rushes to get into the end zone. Though they continued too trailed heading into the break, the Saints were once again helped along by a muffed punt return by the Chiefs that rolled out of bounds in Kansas City's end zone and resulted in a safety.

For a Saints team looking to right the ship as they head into the postseason, points, regardless of whether they are produced by Brees or special teams, are too valuable to pass up.
