The New York Jets failed to convince Kirk Cousins to be their starting quarterback, and their rookie star Sam Darnold kept up with the process. Darnold looks like one of the more promising young quarterbacks in the NFL, but not too long ago, he was still waiting to be drafted. There was a ridiculous amount of talent at quarterback in the 2018 NFL Draft. When Cousins turned down a $90 million deal, the Jets set their eyes on Darnold to be their future.

“I was definitely following it,” Darnold told NY Daily News on Monday. “During the draft process, there’s nothing really else to pay attention to. Because I’m not on a team. We’re not trying to dial up anything. I’m not at USC trying to figure out what we’re going to do the next year. And I’m not on an NFL team trying to figure it out.”

Sam Darnold is 3-3 as an NFL starter. Not bad for a 21-year-old. He's thrown for 1,346 yards, nine touchdowns and seven interceptions for the Jets. The numbers don't really pop, but he's winning games. The team is only a game back from the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots in the AFC East, so they're still in the playoff hunt.

Kirk Cousins has led the Vikings to a 3-2-1 record in the ultra-competitive NFC North. It looks like his decision to turn the Jets down benefited both players. Darnold has a chance to become New York's next great quarterback. He'll need to develop some more experience, but his future looks bright.
