The Seattle Seahawks were dealing with their fair share of injuries going into the 2019 NFL season. Unfortunately, it appears the one suffered by cornerback Kalan Reed is much more significant.

Reed was held out of Seattle's penultimate preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers with a neck injury. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, it could very well be career-threatening.

Seahawks CB Kalan Reed suffered a neck injury that not only landed him on IR but is also likely career-ending, agent Harold Lewis tells me. Injuries to the 3rd and 4th vertebrae led to numbing after his final game and put him at serious risk if he plays again.

This is certainly a crushing blow for Reed since he had been in the midst of a strong training camp in Seattle when the injury occurred. His playing career appears to very well now be in jeopardy.

Reed is a former Mr. Irrelavent after being taken with pick No. 253 by the Tennessee Titans in the 2016 NFL Draft. After three seasons in Tennessee, he signed with Seattle prior to the 2018 campaign. Reports out of training camp suggest that he had been in the midst of competing for the starting nickel back job. Unfortunately, it seems his career has been put on hold for the time being.

Devastating injuries such as these are often a harsh reality that comes with playing in the NFL. This is why players have started to take precautions by exercising their power to secure their futures while they are still physically capable of doing so. Reed's main priority now is ensuring his health for life after football.
