The Seattle Seahawks allowed running back Mike Davis to test the free-agent market just over a week ago. But after failing to strike a deal in visits with the Lions and Rams, Davis is set to come back to Seattle next season on a one-year deal.

Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport:

RB Mike Davis agrees to one-year deal to stay with the Seahawks, source said. He took some visits but decided to stay in Seattle where he flashed last year.

Davis, 25, was a former fourth-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers and spent two seasons there before he was waived last offseason. He was then claimed by Seattle, where he was able to put together easily his best campaign in three years as a pro.

With the Seahawks suffering from so many injuries in the backfield, Davis was able to play in six games, racking 68 carries and 240 yards. That was actually the most rushing yards a Seahawks running back managed last season; quarterback Russell Wilson led the team with 586 rushing yards.

The Seahawks have been looking for a possible upgrade at running back to improve a ground game which took a huge step back. They’ve already hosted veteran running backs in Jonathan Stewart and DeMarco Murray this offseason, but have yet to land a more established player at that position.

If they are unable to do so, Davis could once again play a significant role in the Seahawks running game in 2018. Although, he still faces competition from the likes of Chris Carson, CJ Prosise, and JD McKissic for touches.
