Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, had a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey which mainly revolved around their decision to step down from their position as members of the British royal family after their marriage. However, the interview also spilled tea on the other aspects of their lives, which shed light on the issue of racism.
Markle shared that the royal family had concerns about the skin color of his baby son, Archie, before he was born back in May of 2019.
“Markle relayed a conversation that occurred between Harry and prominent family members while she was pregnant with Archie: There were “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”
“Later in the interview, Harry confirmed that the conversation took place, but didn’t want to engage further: “I’m never going to share, but at the time it was awkward and I was a bit shocked.”
The revelation eventually surprised the public as many weren't aware that the royal family would have thoughts such as those. Tennis icon Serena Williams then defended her friend in Markle on Twitter where she spoke about her first-hand experiences with sexism and racism which allowed her to understand the gravity of the situation.

Aside from the issue of racism, the couple's decision to step down from their posts as members of the royal family eventually had consequences which significantly impacted their lives. Markle's son, Archie, wasn't given the official title of a prince, thus denying him an opportunity to have security personnel around him growing up.
In addition, Prince Harry also revealed that his father, Prince Charles, stopped taking his calls and was eventually ghosted before they made the decision to leave Buckingham Palace. Needless to say, the other members of the royal family were disappointed with Prince Harry's decision but it was surprising how huge the rift was between the two sides.
Despite everything that has happened, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are still entitled to live a normal life and stay away from the public eye. Fortunately for them, they have friends like Serena Williams, who had a deep run in the 2021 Australian Open, show support for them, especially through tough times.
