Philadelphia 76ers president Daryl Morey took a subtle jab at outgoing United States President Donald Trump by posting a GIF of a scene from “Les Miserables” on his Twitter account Tuesday morning.

The 45th President is set to end his term on Jan. 20 as Joe Biden takes over. Morey is clearly pumped for the occasion:

Daryl Morey, of course, made waves with a strong opinion on politics in the past. The former Houston Rockets general manager came under fire after he sent out a tweet supporting the protests in Hong Kong against China.

The Asian nation is known to house a big percentage of the league's fans, and the Rockets especially have a strong link to China because of Yao Ming. The tweet damaged the longstanding relationship between China and the NBA, causing financial losses to both the Rockets and the league in general.

This Daryl Morey saga even caused a stir among lawmakers.

Via Rosie Perper of Business Insider:

“As a lifelong @HoustonRockets fan, I was proud to see @dmorey call out the Chinese Communist Party's repressive treatment of protesters in Hong Kong,” Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas said on Twitter.

“Now, in pursuit of $$, the @NBA is shamefully retreating.”

“And the #NBA, which (correctly) has no problem with players/employees criticizing our govt, is now apologizing for criticizing the Chinese gov't,” Democratic Representative Tom Malinowski of New Jersey tweeted. “This is shameful and cannot stand.”

Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta and President Trump also talked about the issue involving Morey in a meeting back in May 2020:

Daryl Morey is now enjoying a fresh start with the Sixers, and he's clearly ready for a fresh start in the White House with Donald Trump out and Joe Biden in.

Philly will be back in action on Inauguration Day against the Boston Celtics, and it looks like Joel Embiid will be back in the lineup.
