There’s a new sheriff in the Philadelphia 76ers’ front office, as former Sixers player Elton Brand has been hired to run the team. For Sixers center Joel Embiid, this is fantastic news for the continuation of the team’s progress – and process.

With the hiring of Brand, Brett Brown can now shift his entire focus on drawing up the X’s and O’s for the Sixers and preparing them for another season. Following the dismissal of disgraced former general manager Bryan Colangelo back in June, Brown served as the franchise’s interim GM.

Prior to becoming the Sixers’ newest general manager, Elton Brand was the team’s vice president of basketball operations. He also assisted the development of Philadelphia’s G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats (formerly the Delaware 87ers), as general manager.

Brand’s extensive background as a former NBA player and his experience as a team executive should help him in making decisions for the Sixers.

Brand, who was drafted first overall by the Chicago Bulls in 1999, played 17 years in the NBA with stints with the Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks, and Philadelphia. He played a total of 1,078 games with 868 starts and stitched together a career stat line of 15.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game He shot 50.0 percent from the field and made All-Star appearances in 2002 and 2006.

Brand will be at the helm of a Sixers team that finished last season with a 52-30 record and reached the second round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs on the strength of their young dynamic duo of Embiid and Ben Simmons.
