The Toronto Raptors managed to make a statement with their dominant win over the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 5. Home fans then added insult to injury by mocking Sixers center Joel Embiid with his own airplane celebration on his way out of the game.
Philadelphia pulled out Embiid early with the game out of reach. In his postgame presser, however, JoJo said that he was not aware of what the fans were doing.
The prospect of Embiid not seeing almost an entire arena mocking his celebration seems a bit far-fetched. After all, it was rapper Drake that led the charge. Regardless, it is safe to say he has bigger concerns at the moment.
It is no secret that Embiid has been dealing with an illness thus far in the series, and his health issue is one of the reasons for his lackluster performance. Game 5 marked the fourth time he failed to score more than 16 points. He has also not been nearly as effective on the defensive end either.
Although Philadelphia was able to get off to a strong start, it is clear that all the momentum has now shifted in Toronto's favor.
The Sixers are now facing elimination as they head back home to potentially force a Game 7. While Embiid's underwhelming performance is a serious cause for concern, Philadelphia still has a chance to potentially turn things around. The big man may very well get an opportunity to show the Toronto crowd his airplane celebration one more time.
