Monty Williams is joining Brett Brown's staff on the Sixers as his lead assistant. The two have a history dating back to their days in San Antonio where Brown took Williams under his wing.

“He was a guy who gave me a shot. Pop invited me to be around, but Brett was the one who said I got him. He could be in my stable and we spent every day together talking about coaching, life, on the court and on the elliptical. So that stuff went a long way with me because he didn't have to do it and so when I left and went to Portland we stayed in contact. I got a head job and he got a head job and we started competing against each other. We never lost that relationship and then this opportunity came up and it just seemed like not only the right thing to do, but it's been a good transition for me.”

Williams has made recent stops as the New Orleans' Pelicans head coach and more recently in San Antonio's front office. Williams led New Orleans to the playoffs twice in his five seasons, but was never able to advance past the first round.

Monty Williams has assistant coaching experience with Portland during the mid-2000s and a stop as the Oklahoma City Thunder's associate head coach in 2015-16.

Williams brings a wealth of experience to Philly and his familiarity with Brett Brown should make for a seamless transition onto the Philly coaching staff.
