Philadelphia 76ers point guard T.J. McConnell turned a lot of heads on Monday with his impressive performance against the New York Knicks. By recording 10 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists, he became the first Sixers guard since 1970-71 to notch a triple-double off the bench.

His teammate, Joel Embiid, couldn’t help but be very proud of him, and even took to his Twitter account to post a hilarious caption on their photo, calling him the GOAT. However, he wasn’t the only one who called him such, as L.A. Clippers guard and Lou Williams also did, and also took to the social media platform to let his feelings be known.

What’s even more impressive is that not a lot of people saw the triple-double coming as the 25-year-old Arizona product has not been close to reaching that in his previous games. He is also only averaging 7.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.3 steals in 24.6 minutes per game this season. He did have an extended run on the court on Monday, which gave him a chance to showcase his skill set further, leading to his incredible production.

Now that the basketball world knows what he’s capable of, it could mark the start of a hot streak from McConnell and continue playing at a high level moving forward. While he’s not expected to produce a triple-double night in and night out, his confidence should be at an all-time high now which may be enough for him to still play better. Should that be the case, more players around the league could take notice of him and follow the lead of Embiid and Williams, by fondly calling him the GOAT as well.
