Back injuries are not to be messed with. They can linger for a while if not taken care of, so the Sixers are being wise by not bringing Simmons back against the lowly Magic. Philadelphia, behind star big man Joel Embiid, should be able to take care of Orlando.

Before exiting, Ben Simmons had four points and four rebounds in eight minutes. He entered tonight averaging 16.0 points, 14.0 rebounds and 9.5 assists per game. The 22-year-old lefty registered a triple-double Thursday night against the Chicago Bulls.

Simmons played in 81 games last season and didn’t disappoint. The former No. 1 overall pick averaged 15.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 8.2 assists while shooting 54.5 percent from the field during the regular-season. Simmons did all of his damage in the paint. Simmons’ 12.7 points in the paint per game ranked fourth behind Giannis Antetokounmpo’s average of 15.7, Anthony Davis’ 15.4, and LeBron James’ 14.4.

The Sixers have a bright future with Simmons and Embiid leading the way. Now that James is in the Western Conference, the East is wide-open and the Sixers are expected to be a top three team in the conference.
