The Philadelphia 76ers will interview former NBA star Elton Brand among other candidates for their general manager vacancy, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. Ned Cohen, Marc Eversley, and Alex Rucker will be among the other internal candidates interviewed by the Sixers next week.

Philly is interviewing outside candidates this week, including Golden State Warriors assistant GM Larry Harris, Houston Rockets executive vice president Gersson Rosas, and Utah Jazz assistant GM Justin Zanik. Rockets GM Daryl Morey and San Antonio Spurs GM R.C. Buford were prior targets.

Brand played for the Sixers for four seasons (2008-12) and came back from retirement to join the team one last time in 2016 before hanging them up a second and final time.

The New York native would remain in Philadelphia, though, taking a job as a team consultant in December 2016 and later getting the nod as the general manager of their G League affiliate, the Delaware 87ers (now known as the Delaware Blue Coats).

A former No. 1 overall pick in the 1999 NBA Draft and a 17-year veteran of the league, Brand boasts plenty of experience, knowing what it's like to shine in the bright lights, as well as taking a secondary role and mentoring players — skills that will bode well for his future in the front office.

Cohen, Eversley and Rucker all just received promotions in the team's front office, with Cohen taking on the role of assistant GM.
