Ben Simmons is leaving more and more people in awe each time he plays.

Among them is Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle, who couldn’t help himself but be impressed by the Philadelphia 76ers rookie’s rapid development in the NBA after his team lost to Simmons’ Sixers Saturday night, 112-110.

Speaking to a gaggle of reporters following the game, Carlisle gushed at Simmons, who's exceeding expectations even for a player many predicted to be a future star, per Tim McMahon of ESPN.

Simmons was all over the court in the win over the Mavericks, posting 23 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. It’s the kind of performance — and his size — which is making people compare him to LeBron James. That’s quite a comparison, but it’s not going to stop so long as Simmons continue to put up this kind of numbers.

Simmons is making up for the time he lost last season in grand style by averaging 17.5 points, 7.5 assists, and 9.5 rebounds per game on the season. The first overall pick in last year’s NBA Draft was shut down for the entire 2016-17 campaign due to a foot injury, but now 100 percent healthy, he’s become a nightly triple-double threat while also serving as the main reasons why the 76ers are beginning to trend up after several seasons of gloom.

Carlisle, meanwhile, can’t be too envious of the 76ers for having Simmons. After all, he’s got a rookie stud of his own in Dennis Smith Jr.
