Daryl Morey accepted the open president of basketball operations job for the Philadelphia 76ers in large part due to the duo of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. While taking part in an AMA on Reddit, Morey explained why the Sixers' duo of Simmons and Embiid is a “rare” partnership.

Morey pointed to Simmons and Embiid both being in the prime of their careers and on the same team as a rare occurrence, and he believes it could lead to something special.

“Both Ben (24) and Joel (26) are superstar players in the peak of their prime. It is actually very rare to find examples where this is the case and it usually leads to something special,” Daryl Morey said of the Sixers' star duo. “If you compare Ben and Joel to historic comparable players there is obviously no perfect comparison for either but both have a high probability to be in the top players of all time given how they have started and their age.”

For what it's worth, with Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid still young and becoming more experienced players, there's the belief that both of them can help the Sixers reach their goals in the upcoming season.

Of course, the addition of Doc Rivers as the new head coach of Philly has also raised expectations in the city of Brotherly Love. At the same time, the aggressive nature of Morey has already rubbed off on the Sixers.

Throughout the offseason, the team has added Seth Curry and Danny Green to surround Simmons and Embiid with more shooting. They also signed Dwight Howard, giving them a big man off the bench that can back up Embiid.

Fans have seen dynamic duos in the NBA like Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal, LeBron James and Dwayne Wade, and Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. With that being said, it seems Morey is of the belief Simmons and Embiid could be the next historic duo moving forward.
