The Dallas Mavericks are parting ways with sharpshooter Seth Curry to acquire Josh Richardson from the Philadelphia 76ers.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Mavs are sending Curry to the Sixers in exchange for Richardson and the No. 36 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. As Woj also noted, the move woould  bring Seth to be with his father-in-law, Doc Rivers, on the Sixers.

The Mavs sorely need a reliable 3-and-D guy that will complement Luka Doncic, and Josh Richardson certainly fits that criteria. While Seth is a fan-favorite in Dallas and has established himself as a reliable shooter under Rick Carlisle's offensive scheme, the team's defense really needs some boost.

In 2019-20 with the Sixers, Richardon averaged 13.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. He also shot 43.0 percent from the field, 34.1 percent from deep and 80.9 percent from the free throw line.

For what it's worth, Seth Curry figures to get more opportunities on the Sixers, a team that really needs shooting around Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. Getting a shooter like Curry, who made 45.2 percent of his long-distance shots with the Mavs last campaign, should open up the floor even more for Philly's All-Star duo.

Curry put up 12.4 points, 2.3 rebound and 1.9 assists for the Mavs while shooting 49.5 percent overall in 2019-20.

As for the 36th pick they acquired in the trade, the Mavs picked swingman Tyler Bey out of the University of Colorado at Boulder. Earlier in the draft, Dallas selected Josh Green with the 18th pick as well.
