Sledgehammer Games has been confirmed by Activision to be the lead developer in the next Call of Duty title. Sledgehammer Games will be returning once again after helping Activision out with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

After spending some time in the rumor mill, Sledgehammer confirms that bit of information on Twitter.

Call of Duty in the time of Sledgehammer Games

Sledgehammer Games promises to deliver the next Call of Duty title with next-gen consoles in mind. No word as of yet on how they will be treating last-gen consoles.

The announcement of Sledgehammer Games as the lead developer was met with a little confusion on the side of the consumer. The rumors may be blamed here as the initial information claimed the new Call of Duty to be a remake or remastered version of an older game.

Not to say that that would be a bad game. Of course, it would definitely be too much to ask for the developers to have something equal or better consistently released every year.

The last title that was led by Sledgehammer Games was Call of Duty: WWII. The title was met with some excitement as this title was the first time the game went back to its roots in WWII.

With the success of Modern Warfare and its Warzone battle royale, people are hoping for something that will spice things up for the Call of Duty franchise. When last year's Black Ops Cold War received am “okay” standing for an entry in the franchise, giving the new title more room to impress the fans.
