On Wednesday, Roman Abramovich released a heartfelt statement revealing that he's made the extremely difficult decision to put Chelsea up for sale after 19 years. While it's unknown who will purchase the club right now, the Blues will be losing two very important figures of their hierarchy once a deal is completed.
Per Marca, Sporting director Maria Granovskaia and chairman Bruce Buck are both expected to depart Stamford Bridge when Abramovich sells, which is a massive blow for Chelsea. Granovskaia is considered one of the best in the business and has been the driving force behind all of the Blues' high-profile transfers over the years. She's been under Abramovich since 2010 and joined the Chelsea board in 2013.
As for Buck, he's a very influential lawyer and has been with the Blues since 2004. He was named one of the six trustees that Abramovich handed the club to last Saturday. Losing these two, who are so important in the business that Chelsea does behind closed doors is definitely concerning, especially Granovskaia.
Right now, there are a few different candidates to buy the West London outfit, including Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is based in Monaco. He already owns French club Nice and although Ratcliffe is a lifelong Manchester United supporter, but does have a season ticket at Stamford Bridge.
Other possibilities are Todd Boehly, a part-owner of the LA Dodgers and LA Lakers, and Swiss Billionaire Hansjorg Wyss. Needless to say, there are going to be some serious changes with Chelsea and hopefully, it doesn't affect their activity on the transfer market and beyond.
