Chelsea have emerged as a strong candidate to land Cristiano Ronaldo should Manchester United sell him this summer. However, it won't be easy.

Ronaldo has expressed his desire to leave the Red Devils in search for Champions League football. Manchester United failed to qualify for the competition, something that Ronaldo apparently finds motivation in to keep competing.

With that said, the Portuguese scorer reportedly wants to part ways with the club and join a team where he can play in the UCL for the 20th straight season.

This is where Chelsea come in, with the club finishing third in the Premier League in 2021-22 for a spot in the Champions League. As The Athletic noted, the Blues have interest in bringing in Ronaldo if he's available for sale. Nonetheless, the problem is, United don't want to move him.

Chelsea are considering a move for Cristiano Ronaldo amid the forward informing Manchester United he wants to leave the club this summer if a suitable offer arrives, The Athletic understands.

United currently insist Ronaldo is not for sale and have reiterated that he is contracted until 2023.

While Cristiano Ronaldo did not show up in their preseason training on Monday due to family reasons, Manchester United reportedly expect him to join the club in their preseason tour in Thailand and Australia–a clear indication that the Red Devils have no intention of letting him go.

It is unknown what will happen to Ronaldo. Besides, United may not be too keen on the idea of selling him to a Premier League rival, especially with teams like Napoli and Bayern Munich also expressing interest.

Regardless, though, the situation is definitely something worth keeping an eye on since it can tip the balance in the favor of the team Ronaldo ends up with.
