England cruised to a convincing 3-0 victory over Ivory Coast on Tuesday at Wembley Stadium, but the flurry of boos that rained down on defender Harry Maguire stole the spotlight. Every time the Manchester United captain touched the ball in the early moments of the fixture, Three Lions fans expressed their displeasure with him.
While Maguire is a mainstay with Gareth Southgate's side, his form has been poor at the club level with United this term. Nonetheless, his England teammates fired back at the supporters who decided to boo him, making it clear Maguire is a massive part of the Three Lions and their recent success in the last two major tournaments.
This is what Harry Kane and Jordan Henderson had to say:
The fact that he’s been brilliant on the pitch and given us all so many great memories makes it even harder to understand. He doesn’t deserve that reception. He’s got full support in the changing room and should have the same from every England fan.

This is a bad look for England fans, who also racially abused Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Bukayo Saka after the Euro 2020 final. To be honest, Maguire is still a very solid center-back. Although he might not be at top form at the club level, the Englishman still does a lot of things right.
However, it's important to note it was only one section of Wembley that decided to hit Maguire with the negative energy. The clear-cut way for him to win back every single England fan is to keep playing at a high level for his country and prove to be a difference-maker.
It's only a matter of time until he finds himself for the Red Devils again, too. Instead of reacting to the boos, Maguire simply tweeted this after the win:
Enjoyable week playing for my country 🏴❤️ pic.twitter.com/8oHZiOlhpe
