Barcelona has received a $17.8 million bid (£14 million/€15 million) from Ajax for striker Luis Suárez, according to El Chiringuito. Barcelona is reportedly willing to sell Luis Suárez, who will turn 34 next season.

Suárez was not among the handful few which Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu handpicked as “untouchable” for next season, a list that included talisman Lionel Messi, goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen, defenders Clement Lenglet and Nelson Semedo, midfielder Frenkie De Jong, and forwards Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele.

The aforementioned players are now known as “the untouchable seven,” though the list is expected to extend to prospects like Riqui Puig and Ansu Fati as well.

Selling Luis Suárez could open the door for Barcelona's pursuit of another talented forward in Lautaro Martínez.

Suárez played for Ajax for three seasons (2007-10), a stint that eventually catapulted him to star in the Premier League with Liverpool (2010-14), using a 2009-10 local season in which he scored 31 goals and provided 17 assists to propel his move to Barcelona.

The Uruguay international was a sensation during the Messi-Suarez-Neymar days, cracking 40 goals and 18 assists during league play in 2015-16, but his acumen for goal has since deterred.

Luis Suárez's scoring has decreased considerably during the past few years, following that 2015-16 season with 29, 25, 21, and most recently a mere 16 goals in each of the last four La Liga campaigns.

Ajax is shooting relatively low with their bid, considering that Suárez's valuation stands at $30.8 million, according to Transfermarkt. Yet there's something to be said about his decreasing nose for goal and his age, which certainly doesn't bode too well for a bounce-back season.

Returning to his old stomping grounds at Amsterdam and spending some of his last years in the Eredivisie wouldn't be a bad idea for Luis Suárez, considering Barcelona is hellbent in cleaning house and retooling this squad.
