Newcastle United will be looking to spend some serious coin in January to bring in more talent after the Saudi Arabian takeover at the club. While they've pinpointed a number of potential targets, the latest is Barcelona outcast, Philippe Coutinho, according to Spanish outlet Sport.

The Catalans are keen to offload the Brazilian following the sacking of Ronald Koeman, which has left Coutinho out of Barca's plans. He's really struggled to adapt at Camp Nou since a €160 million move from Liverpool in 2018. The playmaker has been in and out of the Barcelona XI due to injuries and inconsistencies, while also going on loan to Bayern Munich. Newcastle is just one of several Premier League clubs who have been linked to Coutinho in the last number of months, but this could very well be the best move for him.

After all, the La Liga giants have been trying to get rid of him for quite some time and are evidently willing to part ways on a permanent basis due to his hefty salary and lack of production. The Brazil international has played just 11 times across all competitions this term while only starting four in league action.

Newcastle needs reinforcements across the next two transfer windows as they aim to turn things around at St. James Park. Coutinho previously had boatloads of success in England with Liverpool and could thrive in familiar surroundings once again. While Barca wants to get rid of him for good, there's still a possibility he goes on loan with the obligation to buy.

A change of scenery is undoubtedly needed for Coutinho. Newcastle needs to jump on this opportunity.
