With a new Tottenham boss in Nuno Espirito Santo, the first priority is to strengthen the squad. Attacking reinforcements are a definite need for Spurs and with that in mind, they're eyeing Southampton hitman Danny Ings, according to the Telegraph.
Santo is set to change up their formation next term and opt to play a front two, in which he wants to find a partner for Harry Kane, whom he hopes stays in North London. The Portuguese manager previously voiced his desire to speak with Kane and clear the air after the England international made it clear he wanted to leave Tottenham.
A player like Ings could be a valuable partner for Kane. After a couple of injury-riddled campaigns at Liverpool, he's really found at home on the South Coast, scoring 34 goals across the last two seasons. Ings even bagged 22 goals in 2019/20 as he just missed out on winning the Premier League Golden Boot.
The 28-year-old has been linked with Tottenham for quite some time, even dating back to 2014 when he was a Burnley player. But, it's important to note that Ings just rejected a new four-year contract at Southampton, which means he is clearly interested in a move away from St. Mary's.
However, he still has one year remaining on his current deal and according to other reports, the Saints are reluctant to do business with Tottenham. Nevertheless, this could be the signing that actually keeps Harry Kane at Spurs. Tottenham needs to get this done.
