Haslem does not believe so, and he certainly would not have wanted to see that experiment play out.</p><p>It seemed unlikely the Heat were ever real contenders to get Harden, anyway. Despite not seeing much playing time over the last couple of seasons, the Heat have always made it a point to re-sign Haslem, even if it means giving up a roster spot.</p><p>That just shows how much the organization values Haslem’s leadership and voice, not only in the locker room, but also on the Heat bench. In fact, Haslem showed that when he gave an emotional pep talk to the team amidst getting dominated by the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 2 of the NBA Finals.</p><p>The speech appeared to light a fire under the entire squad, responding with an inspirational performance in Game 3, beating the heavily-favored Lakers despite missing stars Bam Adebayo and Goran Dragic.</p><p>While Miami eventually lost the series and the championship in six games, they are certainly aiming to get another crack at winning an NBA title this season. Haslem has been there before, winning on three occasions and losing on three as well. Haslem shared a post indicating that there have been talks saying Miami climbing all the way to the 2020 NBA Finals was a lucky break.</p><blockquote>“Just in case they missed it. Don’t worry, these dogs stay hungry. F– they thought…” Haslem wrote.</blockquote><figure><img src="https://clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/UD.jpg"></figure><p>After witnessing what Haslem and the Heat pulled off inside the bubble, it’s going to be quite hard to throw some shade towards their success. Though Miami started out with a 3-5 record in the seeding games after the season restart, they quickly regrouped and bounced back strong come playoff time.</p><p>Through Jimmy Butler and the rest of the gritty Heat squad, they easily took care of business against the Indiana Pacers in the first round in a four-game sweep. Also, they only needed five games to eliminate reigning back-to-back MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks.</p><p>In the ECF, they dropped just two games against the Boston Celtics before making their way to an NBA Finals berth against the Lakers. Even though LA <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-lebron-james-la-dominate-heat-to-take-2020-nba-title/" rel="noopener noreferrer">won it all in six games</a>, the Heat still managed to put up a fight even with key players missing a ton of playing time due to injuries.</p><p>Udonis Haslem will be returning for his 18th year in Miami and is looking to prove that this Heat unit is indeed a force to be reckoned with. He has been with the team ever since he was acquired back in 2003 as an undrafted rookie and currently holds the longest active streak of any player when it comes to consecutive seasons on the same team with 17.</p><p>According to <a href="https://www.slamonline.com/nba/udonis-haslem-heat-18th-season/">Sun Sentinel</a>‘s Ira Winderman, he recently made the announcement at a Subway sandwich shop he operates in Coconut Creek, saying it like he’s the Terminator:</p><blockquote>“I am the Miami Heat; the Miami Heat is me.”</blockquote><p>Despite seeing limited to no action on the floor for the Heat in the past season, Haslem remained to be a valuable piece of the team. He’s always been a strong voice in the locker room with Pat Riley looking to instate a youth movement. On a team that features incoming sophomores Tyler Herro and Kendrick Nunn along with fellow young standouts Duncan Robinson and Bam Adebayo, a calming presence like UD’s becomes much more vital.</p><p>As a mainstay on the Heat, Haslem has already become the franchise’s all-time leading rebounder. His next appearance on the court in the upcoming season will make him the oldest player in franchise history at age 40, passing former teammate and NBA veteran Juwan Howard.</p><p>Despite the commitment, details regarding Haslem’s new contract will not be discussed and revealed until Nov. 20 which marks the start of free agency in the league. He will most likely be inked to a $2.6 million veterans minimum deal, which will be similar to the type of contract that he has been under in the past few seasons.</p><p>With a three-time NBA champion in Udonis Haslem expected to be back at the helm for the Heat, the Erik Spoelstra-led team will aim to nurture their winning tradition and have another shot at the title next season.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
