Becky Hammon's stellar career in the WNBA and the coaching experience she has accumulated with the San Antonio Spurs have made her a strong head coaching candidate. She has drawn interest from NBA teams before. Now, two teams in the W are pursuing her to be their head coach.

According to Shams Charania and Chantel Jennings of The Athletic, the New York Liberty and Las Vegas Aces are looking to land Hammon.

The Liberty fired Walt Hopkins, their head coach of the previous two seasons, earlier this month. The Aces still have NBA All-Star Bill Laimbeer as their head coach, but Laimbeer would step down if Hammon accepts the job in Las Vegas, per Charania and Jennings' report. Both teams made the playoffs last season.

The Aces are set up to be a championship contender with stars like Liz Cambage, A'ja Wilson and Chelsea Gray. The Liberty are an up-and-coming team led by Betnijah Laney and Sabrina Ionescu. Though Hammon is looking at two different situations, they're both interesting opportunities for the Spurs' assistant.

As a player, Hammon spent eight years with the Liberty and eight with the San Antonio Silver Stars, who became the Aces in 2018. She was a shrewd and clever point guard who was named an All-Star six times.

Hammon has spent time as an assistant to Greg Popovich since 2014. She has experience coaching the Spurs' summer league team and has worked with coaches who went on to be NBA head coaches, like James Borrego and Ima Udoka.
