San Antonio Spurs shooting guard DeMar DeRozan is a hero to a lot of people, not just basketball fans.

During the 2017-18 season, Cleveland Cavaliers big man Kevin Love opened up about his struggles with mental health and how more awareness needs to be brought onto the subject.

Love’s bravery in talking about his illness started a movement, as shortly after the Cavs power forward spoke about his struggles, DeRozan, Oklahoma City Thunder center Steven Adams and Phoenix Suns swingman Kelly Oubre shared their own battles with mental health.

Since that season, DeRozan has made it a point to share his story and bring more awareness to mental health. The day before Thanksgiving, the Spurs All-Star spoke to students about mental health and his personal fight with depression.

DeRozan wants everyone to know that you shouldn't be afraid to talk about your mental health. The Spurs star is doing amazing things in the community and wants young kids to understand just how important their mental health is.

No matter how rich or famous you are, everyone goes through something. Love and DeRozan had the courage to talk about their personal demons and now it's bringing more awareness to the mental health field as a whole.

The Spurs are definitely proud to have a player like DeRozan anchor their franchise, both on and off the basketball court.
