The San Antonio Spurs seemingly found another diamond in the rough with their rookie in Devin Vassell. In a postgame interview, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich wasn't stingy with his strong praises for the Florida State product after his impressive outing against the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night, per Tom Orsborn.

Entering the game as the underdogs against the Suns, the Spurs still gave their best effort even without having star swingman DeMar DeRozan in the active lineup. Vassell made the most out of the opportunities given to him as he notched a career-high 18 points on 4-of-6 shots from beyond the arc to go with three rebounds and two assists through 24 minutes of action.

With his efficient play, San Antonio managed to lead from start to finish as they cruised to a convincing 111-85 victory which halted Phoenix's 10-game winning streak on their home floor. The win eventually allowed the Spurs to improve to a 27-28 record for the 10th spot in the Western Conference.

In his rookie campaign, Vassell is only averaging 5.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 0.9 assists through 45 games as a player coming off the bench. Despite his meager averages, he is still shooting a respectable 41.4% from the field and 40.8% from beyond the arc this season.

With less than 20 games left to be played for the remainder of the season, the Spurs will need all the help that they can get from their players in order to further climb up the standings in the West. Hopefully, the breakout game of Devin Vassell will allow him to be a more valuable contributor for the Spurs in their coming games.
