San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is statistically vulnerable to contracting COVID-19 and developing symptoms since he's 71 years old.

However, that's not going to stop the legendary tactician from coaching the Spurs at the “bubble” games, which are taking place at the Walt Disney Resort.

According to Mike Finger of the San Antonio Express-News, Popovich will be with the Spurs in Orlando despite the state of Florida being a hotspot for COVID-19.

There will be those who wonder why Gregg Popovich is subjecting himself to this, especially in the middle of a pandemic to which he is statistically vulnerable. His employer and his league have spent weeks devising and implementing a long list of precautions to protect the safety of the participants, but they cannot guarantee everyone’s well-being, because the curve has been far from flattened, and because the “bubble” is not really a bubble.

The Spurs face an uphill battle to make the playoffs for the 23rd consecutive season. San Antonio will be without All-Star power forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who is recovering from shoulder surgery. The team is in 12th place in the Western Conference standings.

Once the seeding games start on July 30, the Spurs will face the Sacramento Kings, Memphis Grizzlies, Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, Utah Jazz (twice), New Orleans Pelicans and Houston Rockets. Most pundits aren't giving San Antonio a chance to make the 2020 playoffs.

Before games were suspended in March, the Spurs only had 27 wins. San Antonio fans are hoping the club can shock the world and make the 2020 playoffs, but the health of Popovich and the players is more important at this juncture.
