After Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs got ejected from the game against the Los Angeles Lakers, he turned to assistant coach Becky Hammon to take charge and told her, “You got it,” before going back to the locker room.

Sure, Hammon made history serving as the first woman head coach for an NBA team but Pop didn't see it that way. Dan Woike of the LA Times captures Pop's full answer about Hammon making NBA history:

One of the most successful coaches in the history of the NBA thinking that Hammon serving as a head coach not being a big deal showed how the Spurs organization truly felt about Hammon. They believed in her passion for the game and fearless mentality the moment earned her spot on the coaching staff. She has always been a person Pop could turn to for advice or for strategy changes because he has always trusted Hammon's vision for the game.

She made history this past Wednesday and she will continue to inspire women to follow their dreams and never give up on them. However, Pop's perspective on what happened Wednesday with the Spurs is the mentality that everyone should strive to adopt. He emphasized that no gender is associated with the title of an NBA coach and whoever earns that spot has the right to serve as a coach.

Hammon has won the hearts of players and coaches all throughout the NBA, as she has worked tremendously hard to get where she is today with the Spurs. Her work ethic and drive should serve as a blueprint for aspiring NBA coaches and those who simply want to follow their dreams.

The Spurs continue their NBA season Friday night with another game against the Lakers. San Antonio is 2-2 on the young season and trying to develop its supporting cast into a stronger group… with Becky Hammon's help.
