Victor Wembanyama continues to make a run for the Rookie of the Year award. Averaging stellar numbers and putting his name in the record books at just 20 years of age, Wembanyama once again had an impressive outing during the San Antonio Spurs' game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday. However, amid his historic rookie season, the Frenchman's current injury status continues to raise concern from fans.

After rolling his ankle on a ball boy's foot around two weeks ago, Wembanyama was given a minutes restriction that continues to be upheld at the moment. Asked about the status of his ankle, Wemby made it clear that his injury gets re-examined from time to time.

“My whole body is going to be re-examined every couple of weeks or so,” he said, as per The San Antonio Express-News' Tom Orsborn. “It is something we keep in front of our eyes. We can't get mistaken on this.”

Since his ankle injury, Wembanyama has played no more than 26 minutes per game, a sign of continuous precaution for the Spurs. It's understandable, considering what Wemby has achieved so far.

Wembanyama continues impressive play for Spurs amid minutes restriction

Averaging a double-double of 19.3 points and 10.1 rebounds per game, to go with 3.3 blocks this season, Wemby has been one of the silver linings for the Spurs amid a losing year.

During Sunday's loss to the Cavs, Wembanyama produced 24 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks despite the said minutes restriction being implemented. This comes right after his viral game against the Milwaukee Bucks, where the Frenchman was able to hold his own against Giannis Antetokounmpo, even giving the fans several highlight plays.

While there's no timetable for Victor Wembanyama to be unleashed at full force again, one thing is for sure — the Spurs are doing everything in their power to make sure that injuries won't have a negative impact on the young star's career.
