Mother Nature has been on a tear recently with two straight occasions — unfortunate ones at that — where she reminded everyone of her destructive power.
The city of Houston and nearby areas got hit by Hurricane Harvey, leaving thousands of lives uprooted and properties severely damaged. This time, a much stronger storm approaches the state of Florida in Hurricane Irma, but it has already made its wrath felt all over the U.S. Virgin Islands.
San Antonio Spurs legend Tim Duncan, a native of the U.S. Virgin Islands, used The Players’ Tribune as his platform to spread awareness and, at the same time, seek help in the wake of the Category 5 storm’s devastation.
Duncan has already started the ball rolling by pledging $250,000 but he’s not done yet, and he wants everyone to follow suit.
To join my effort, go to my Virgin Islands Hurricane Relief Page here.
I will match your financial donations up to the first $1 million. I’ve just started things off with my initial $250,000 contribution.
And if you’re interested in contributing material goods, we have a plane leaving from San Antonio to St. Croix next week that will be carrying all of the supplies and donated items that we receive. Please contact us as soon as possible with what you will be donating so we can make sure we have it on our flight out to the islands.
Tim Duncan’s words perfectly paint the troubling situation and he’s worried that it might get much worse with another Category 5 storm on Hurricane Irma’s tail.
