Patrick Peterson hasn’t exactly provided a spark for the Pittsburgh Steelers defense this season but he has been a versatile player and a shining example of a veteran. Peterson has played everywhere for the Steelers this season, including safety and in the slot.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Peterson's willingness to play wherever is part of the reason why they signed him. He compared Peterson to another versatile defensive back and a former Steeler.

“That’s why we brought Pat here,” Tomlin said, via Allison Koehler. “He’s a veteran player, he’s smart. If you remember, we moved Cam Sutton around a lot. Essentially, he is Cam Sutton. Position flexibility was an attractive component to the acquisition of him.”

Peterson played at least 90% of the defensive snaps in every game so far this season for the Steelers. He has 18 tackles, six pass deflections and one interception. He's started every game.

Cam Sutton played for the Steelers for six seasons, starting 39 of the 84 games he played with Pittsburgh. Sutton played all over the field as well and was a key member for the Steelers secondary. He signed a three-year deal with the Detroit Lions in March.

Patrick Peterson is a three-time first-team All-Pro and eight-time Pro Bowl selection. The Steelers are the third team he's played for and Pittsburgh expects the future Hall of Fame cornerback to play a significant role in its climb back into the postseason.

The Steelers are 4-2 after winning their second consecutive game last Sunday. With Patrick Peterson likely playing a factor, Pittsburgh will try to make it three in a row when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
