Even as they have been rivals over the past few seasons, Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield does “admire” Pittsburgh Steelers star Ben Roethlisberger and his unique style of play as a passer.

During a press conference ahead of the upcoming Monday Night Football encounter between the Steelers and Browns, Mayfield touched on Roethlisberger's career in Pittsburgh and what he has been most a fan of with watching the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

“There is a lot that I admire about his game and respect it, to be honest with you,” Mayfield said. “His play, he extends plays, but he trusts his guys thoroughly. He trusts his receivers, tight ends and all of those guys to make plays for him, and he has done it consistently, no matter who has been out there with him.

“When it comes to fourth quarter or coming back and sparking drives for a comeback and when a play is needed to be made, he has consistently done that for a long, long time. That is something you can’t teach. He has just had that, and that is why he has had success for so long.”

These two characteristics of Roethlisberger’s play have been what many reflect most on when looking back on his legacy with the Steelers. For one, the two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback has managed to withstand hits and also evade pressure with relative ease at times.

More so, he has been among the more clutch quarterbacks in NFL history. Overall, he currently sits in a tie with Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady for the third-most game-winning drives with 52.

This upcoming encounter against the Browns may be Roethlisberger’s final one with the Steelers, as there has been rampant speculation over the possibility of this season being his final one in Pittsburgh. He fueled such talk earlier in the week when he noted that “all signs” are pointing towards this coming to fruition.

Overall, Roethlisberger has posted a 25-2-1 career record against the Browns, which includes 42 touchdown passes.
