The Pittsburgh Steelers are making a move to add some pass-rushing depth, signing Jayrone Elliott, according to Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk.com. As Alper points out, the team just lost defensive lineman Lavon Hooks to a torn Achilles, so the signing makes some sense.

Hooks was waived with an injury designation in a corresponding roster move. Elliott originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Packers back in 2014, and he's bounced around a lot since then. He spent three seasons in Green Bay, and was then traded to Dallas on the eve of the 2017 campaign.

He was waived after just a few weeks with the Cowboys, and then signed a reserve/futures deal with the Saints after the season. He was released at final cuts last year, and ended up latching on with the Alliance of American Football.

He played with the San Antonio Commanders and played for them before the league went under. He signed with the Dolphins back in April, but was released in July.

He's reached true journeyman status, and is now on his sixth professional team at the age of 27. The Toledo product won't have too much time to prove he deserves a roster spot, as he has less than two weeks until roster cutdown day.

For his career, Elliott has appeared in 39 games. He has 47 tackles, eight quarterback hits, and four sacks. His best season came in 2015 with the Packers, when he had three sacks, an interception, and two passes defended.
