Dana White recently made headlines when he said UFC welterweights are scared of fighting Khamzat Chimaev. Many fighters responded and expressed how wrong that statement was. Stephen Thompson can be included in that conversation.

The UFC welterweight has been around for a long time and has faced the scariest guys in the division. Khamzat Chimaev could be one of those guys under one important condition.

Stephen Thompson is starting to get up there in age and his opportunities to fight for the title are becoming slim. He's willing to fight Khamzat Chimaev if it means fighting for the title in the future.

“He’s definitely a tough guy,” UFC welterweight Thompson said via MMAJunkie. “To see him against (Jack) Hermansson (in a wrestling match) was like, ‘What?’ That guy’s a welterweight. He looked bigger than Hermansson did. That’s a scary guy right there with that quality of wrestling. It’s ridiculous. At some point in time we’ll probably be facing each other for sure. Yeah. That’s along with a lot of these up-and-coming guys. You got Sean Brady right there with him. I could be facing anyone of them. I could see myself facing those guys for sure in the future.

Stephen Thompson is one of the best strikers in the division and has beaten some of the best the UFC has to offer. A fight with Khamzat Chimaev would be very interesting stylistically.

Stephen Thompson would need to avoid the ground and frustrate his opponent on the feet. A potential fight in the UFC would be very interesting for both men.
