The Phoenix Suns almost won the NBA Finals last season. They ended up falling just short against the Milwaukee Bucks. But one Suns' player recently revealed the reason he believes that Phoenix can win the NBA Championship this time around. JaVale McGee feels as if he was the missing link last year.
“They were the best team last year, they just lost in the Finals,” McGee stated. “They need one more piece and I’m that piece. I feel it, this that year.”
McGee believes that the Suns are ready for the next step now that he is on the roster. His comments may sound rather comical at first. But he has been an underlying positive for the team this season, and he has NBA Finals experience.
McGee previously played in the NBA Finals as a member of the Warriors and Lakers in the past. His experience should prove to be beneficial for Phoenix should they make it all the way to the Finals this year.
His 2021-2022 regular season numbers don't jump off the page. He averaged just over 9 points per game and grabbed just under 7 rebounds per contest. Additionally, he added 1.1 blocks per game. But to fully understand the impact he brings to a team you need to watch him play. You can't only rely on numbers when discussing McGee's value. He offers high energy and tenacity and is one of the better shot blockers in the NBA.
So is JaVale McGee the piece that brings it all together for the Suns? Although it is certainly debatable, he could end up being one of Phoenix's unsung heroes in the postseason.
