Oubre is reportedly seeking a second opinion on the injury, in the hopes that it would not keep him sidelined for the remainder of the season, which deals a significant blow to the Suns' chances of chasing down the Memphis Grizzlies for the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference, for whom they enter play Thursday just 4.5 games behind.
Article Continues BelowAfter playing 40 games with Phoenix last year following a trade from the Washington Wizards, Oubre re-upped with the franchise on a two-year, $30 million deal. Primarily a reserve for the first four seasons of his career, Oubre entered the starting five on a full-time basis this season and is on pace to set new career highs in points (18.7) and rebounds (6.4) per game, while shooting 45.2 percent overall and 35.2 percent from behind the arc.
Oubre had helped the five-man lineup of he, Ricky Rubio, Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton and Mikal Bridges record the best net rating (+20.2) of any five-man quintet in the league.
Dario Saric entered the starting lineup in Oubre's place Wednesday, and figures to remain a stalwart of the rotation over the final six-plus weeks. Should Oubre's 2019-20 campaign be over, he will enter a crucial 2020-21 just a year away from becoming a free agent with a Suns group that will be aiming to find its way into the postseason picture.
