The Australian nation squad pulled off what is likely going to be one of, if not the biggest upset of the year after defeating the mighty Team USA on Saturday, 98-94. The Australians were playing against the odds, but being cheered on by a 51,000-strong capacity crowd in Melbourne's Marvel Arena seemed to have pushed the Boomers over the edge.

This was definitely a night to remember, as this is the first time that Australia has ever beaten Team USA, and surely, this is an occasion that the Aussies will keep in their memory for years to come.

San Antonio Spurs point guard Patty Mills led the way for Australia, scoring 30 huge points, along with back-to-back three-pointers deep in the fourth and final period. The 31-year-old dropped 13 points in the final frame, and the Americans simply had no answer to the crafty veteran.

“We're trying to build to an ultimate goal of winning a medal at a major championship and this is the process to get there,” Mills said, via ESPN's Jake Michaels.

“This is one step and [we're] growing and building as a group. We're locked into creating history as a group and we're not satisfied yet.”

Kudos to Mills and the rest of the Boomers here for keeping their spirits up despite a heavy defeat against the same squad a couple of days ago in a similar exhibition match.

As for Team USA, this defeat should serve as a useful learning experience, and you can be sure that head coach Gregg Popovich will ram every single lesson down the team's collective throat.
