Team USA had a roller coaster of a journey leading up to the gold medal game at the Tokyo Olympics, but in the end they pulled it off. Kevin Durant was his usual monstrous self, posting 29 big points on the grandest international stage of basketball to seal the deal for the Americans.

Team USA's leading scorer spoke out after the win, vocalizing the struggles they had to overcome to get there.

“We went through some real adversity. We lost a tournament game, we lost two exhibition games. We had guys coming in late, and we just fought through everything.”

There was a ton of chatter about Team USA no longer being the unbeatable titan that they once were. But despite that, they were still the best team when the dust settled. The early defeats might have been just what they needed to remain laser-focused in their quest for the gold

“We wanted to play them again,” Durant said of France after losing to them to open the tournament, “just like we wanted to play Australia again.”

The win marks Team USA's fourth consecutive gold medal at the Olympic games. Safe to say they'll be the favorites once again the next time around.
