Multiple outlets have already confirmed that Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has suffered an ankle sprain during Team USA practice. The 19-year-old has been ruled out for the remainder of training camp which means that he won't be taking part in any of the practice stints against the 12-man contingent being sent by the United States to compete in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

ESPN's NBA insider Brian Windhorst first broke the news on Twitter:

Bleacher Report has since also confirmed Edwards' injury, which, fortunately, does not appear to be serious:

To be clear, Edwards was selected as part of the 2021 USA Basketball Select Team alongside 16 other young studs around the NBA such as Saddiq Bey, Darius Garland, Miles Bridges, Tyrese Haliburton, Tyler Herro, Immanuel Quickley, and Patrick Williams, to name a few. The squad is set to train with Team USA on a daily basis during the Las Vegas training camp ahead of the Olympic games in Japan.

While Edwards won't be participating in any of the practice sessions from here on out, the good news here is that the injury does not sound serious. A bit of rest and rehab should get this season's Rookie of the Year runner-up back to full health. At this point, there appears to be no cause for concern about this injury potentially having any long-term effect on Anthony Edwards. Barring any unforeseen setbacks, we fully expect him to suit up for the Timberwolves on opening night of the 2021-22 season.
