Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has enjoyed his time around Sacramento Kings point guard De'Aaron Fox with Team USA.
Fox was the standout player at Team USA training camp in Las Vegas last week and is a virtual lock to make the 12-man roster which will compete at the FIBA World Cup in China.
“I’ve enjoyed coaching him and watching him,” Kerr said, via James Ham of NBC Sports Bay Area. “He's so talented, he’s so gifted. He’s still such a young player that he’s got a whole other level he can get to. You see him learning, you see him taking it all in, he’s very, very coachable. So a guy with that kind of talent, that kind of brain and that kind of character, he’s only going to get better.”
All signs point toward Team USA head coach Gregg Popovich starting De'Aaron Fox and Utah Jazz shooting guard Donovan Mitchell in the backcourt once the games begin in China.
Last season for the Kings, Fox averaged 17.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 7.3 assists. The lefty shot 45.8 percent overall, 37.1 percent from the 3-point line and 72.7 percent from the charity stripe.
Fox is arguably the fastest guard in the NBA. His speed in transition will be a weapon for Team USA at the World Cup since other countries likely won’t have defenders who will be able to stay in front of Fox in the open court.
