Team USA was dealt with another huge blow on Monday after it was announced that Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine was unable to travel with the squad to Tokyo because of health and safety protocols. The 26-year-old has since taken to Instagram to share his reaction to this unfortunate development.

LaVine commented on one of his earlier posts declaring his excitement to travel to Japan for the Olympics. The Bulls guard needed just two words to express his disappointment in this recent development:

After his original caption stated, “Off to Tokyo!” LaVine followed it up with a rather disheartening comment on Monday. “Or not,” he wrote, accompanied by a couple of sad emojis.

The details as to why the Bulls All-Star was placed under health and safety protocols were not made public. It does not look like LaVine has tested positive for COVID-19, though, with reports also stating that there is some optimism that he will be able to fly to Tokyo later this week.

Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal was also left out of the squad earlier in the week due to COVID-19 protocols. Beal, however, has withdrawn from the squad entirely, while there is still some hope that LaVine is able to re-join his teammates once he clears the protocols.

The Olympics is set to kick off on July 23, with Team USA scheduled for its first game on Sunday, July 25th. The national team takes on France in their opening match, and they hope to get Zach LaVine back for what could be a grueling tournament ahead for Team USA.
