Novak Djokovic has been ripped by a virologist on social media over his views and stance on vaccinations.

It has been widely known in the sport that 20-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic has not been in favor of the rules and regulations regarding COVID-19 vaccinations. He has often been criticized for it and another recent dig came from an Italian virologist named Roberto Burioni.

Referring to Djokovic on a social media post, Burioni boldly described the World No. 1 as a “sucker.”

“Notice the difference between a true champion and a sucker who plays well at tennis,” Burioni wrote on Twitter translated by Tennis World USA.

The first biggest tournament of 2022 is the Australian Open. As it stands, it appears that Djokovic is unlikely to play at the prestigious event for obvious reasons–the COVID-19 vaccination rules.

In accordance to the majority, the Australian Open organizers require all players who will take part in the event to be vaccinated. Djokovic, on the other hand, who has declined to disclose the real status of his vaccination has once again become the center of attention.

According to his father Srdjan, Novak will “probably” won't play rather than succumb to the tournament's governing bodies' “blackmails” regarding the matter.

“As far as vaccines and non-vaccines are concerned, it is the personal right of each of us whether we will be vaccinated or not. No one has the right to enter into our intimacy,” Srdjan said via CNN. “Under these blackmails and conditions, [Djokovic] probably won't [play]. I wouldn't do that. And he's my son, so you decide for yourself.”

To date, Djokovic has won a total of nine Grand Slam titles at Melbourne Park, including this year's tournament.
