Roger Federer is not ready to call it quits, but it may take some time before we see him back in action. The tennis legend recently revealed that he is set to go under the knife in hopes of having his ailing right knee corrected, via his Instagram account.
“I've been doing a lot of checks with the doctors, as well, on my knee, getting all the information, as I hurt myself further during the grass-court season and Wimbledon,” Federer said. “Unfortunately, they told me for the medium to long term, to feel better, I will need surgery, so I decided to do it. I will be on crutches for many weeks and then also out of the game for many months.”
Although Federer delivered the news as jovial as possible, it's hard to imagine that his decision was an easy one for him to make. Federer just turned 40 this August, which is way past bedtime for most professional athletes.
Article Continues BelowBut that's also why Federer is considered by many as the greatest of all time in tennis. Then again, that's a title that he's also trying to solidify further. Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have both tied Federer for the most Grand Slam titles ever, with each man owning 20.
The last time Roger Federer won a Grand Slam was at the 2018 Australian Open.
