Venus Williams might be the biggest star in all of tennis. She also happens to be vegan, which she is now claiming changed her life. Anyway, it's Venus Williams vegan story time!
It's obviously worth noting that she lives with an autoimmune disease. Her situation isn't just about trying to get better on the court. Nevertheless, let's get to the nitty and gritty.
Venus Williams Vegan
Talking to Insider, the tennis superstar spoke about the lifestyle change.
“Living with an autoimmune disease, things can get a little tricky and you can be on loads of medicine, and that’s not something that I want to do.
“So to be able to control as much as I can — what’s happening in my body, my inflammation levels — through what I eat is a godsend.
“Plant-based definitely changed my life.”
It's also worth noting that Venus Williams said she still loves junk food. And, honestly, who doesn't? I don't care if you're the highest level athlete or a guy scribbling words about a tennis superstar in the corner of his bedroom while hoping no one notices you're looking scarfing down a chocolate bar, “bad” food is delicious.
Circling back to they why, though:
“Living with an autoimmune disease, things can get a little tricky and you can be on loads of medicine, and that's not something that I want to do,” tennis icon Venus Williams said. “So to be able to control as much as I can — what's happening in my body, my inflammation levels — through what I eat is a godsend.”
All of which makes total sense. If it works for her, it's obviously good. Some folk will — because the Internet! — use this as some weird justification to get angry over a truly benign Venus Williams vegan deal, but that certainly says more about them than the legendary tennis star.
