Former NFL pass rusher Chris Long knows exactly how hard it is to tackle current Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. Despite the fact that Long and his Philadelphia Eagles only took on the Texans once since Watson originally arrived in Houston, the former first round NFL Draft pick put on an absolute clinic as a result of such an outing.
Although the Eagles eventually came away with a win over the Texans back in December 2018, Watson still managed to produce 339 yards and two touchdowns through the air. Somehow completing 29 of his 40 passing attempts while failing to throw an interception against Long and the Eagles, Watson did take four sacks in Philadelphia.
Flash forward a few years and Watson is now the face of the Texans with current Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins recently being shipped out to the desert. In exchange for Hopkins' services, the Texans did acquire Pro Bowl running back David Johnson, who will now join Watson in the Houston backfield. Although the Texans will have the opportunity to make a few additional upgrades as a result of the 2020 NFL Draft, it may be a tough year for Watson and company in Houston as a rebuild seems inevitable at this point.
On the other hand, Long and his Eagles did win a Super Bowl during his time in Philadelphia with the Texans still unable to advance past the second round of the postseason as a result of the team's last few trips to the playoffs. With the team's immediate future now up in the air, it could be quite some time until Watson can bring Houston back to the postseason.
