The Houston Texans traded for Buffalo Bills star wide receiver Stefon Diggs on Wednesday, and now details are surfacing about a significant alteration to this contract that will wipe out the final three seasons of his deal and make him a free agent.

The news came at a time when star running back Joe Mixon decided to add his two cents about the deal. Diggs said his emotional goodbye to the Bills after leading them to the playoffs last season.

On Thursday, details surfaced about a blockbuster change to Diggs' contract that the Texans reportedly hope will incentivize Diggs to play his best in 2024-2025.

Diggs' Final Three Years Wiped Out in Latest Move

League sources revealed the info to Adam Schefter, who reported that Diggs will receive a raise assuring him of $22.52 million in guaranteed money in 2024. A total of $3.5 million was moved up to this season and guaranteed to the star wideout, but the final three years of his contract will be wiped out.

Diggs was sent to the Texans on Wednesday along with a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick. The Bills received a 2025 second-round pick via the Minnesota Vikings in exchange.

The former Maryland Terrapins star now has the option of becoming a free agent this offseason according to the ESPN report.

Diggs' Prospects for Success in Houston 

Diggs will now almost certainly become one of the top targets for Texans quarterback CJ Stroud, who became the youngest starting quarterback to win an NFL Playoff Game last season. Stroud has set several NFL rookie records and was named the Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year for 2023-2024.

Stroud signed a four-year, $104 million contract extension with the Bills in April 2022 and became a favorite target of star QB Josh Allen. He is a three-time Bills captain.

The Bills will carry a dead money charge of $31.096 million next season due tot he Diggs trade according to Roster Management System. It will be the highest such charge of its kind in any season according to ESPN Stats & Information Research.
