Arch Manning came into the Texas football program as the number one recruit in the 2023 class, but he might not see much playing time on the field.

Star Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is leaning towards returning to the Longhorns in the 2024 season instead of declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft, per 247SPorts. Ewers' decision to stay could throw Arch Manning's short-term future into limbo

Interestingly, 247Sports reporter Chris Hummer spoke about Manning's future with Texas and signaled the young Manning is perfectly fine with being patient.

“Based on everything we've heard, Arch is perfectly happy at Texas. I think the expectation is he will be back in 2024. The real question mark in the room is what happens with Quinn Ewers and what happens with Maalik Murphy. Matt's reported it before, and a lot of us have been hearing similar things, about Quinn being likely to return to Texas in 2024. But you never know what happens during a College Football Playoff run. He just had the best game of his career, in the Big 12 Championship Game, and we'll see how he plays during the stretch run for Texas. That could impact his decision,” Hummer reported.

Having two talented quarterbacks in a sport where injuries play a huge part in the story of a season a la Florida State isn't the worst problem. However, with the transfer portal encouraging player movement in the college athletics, Longhorn fans should be encouraged with Hummer's report about Manning's thought process about staying with the program.

Texas has an opportunity to win the National Championship after being seeded number three in the College Football Playoff. They won their final Big 12 championship over Oklahoma State before they head to the SEC in the 2024 season. If Manning does indeed decide to stay past next season, he can be the quarterback that bring success to the Longhorns as they look to fight for success in a traditionally talent-rich SEC landscape.

Texas will face off against Washington in the Sugar Bowl on January 1st at 8:45 PM EST.
